	BIOGRAPHY Dr. Atkinson earned her Ph.D. from Michigan State University in Applied Mechanics. Prior to her graduate study, she worked at General Motors. Dr. Atkinson joined the Wayne State faculty in 1998. RESEARCH INTERESTS Dr. Atkinson's research interests focus on the biomechanics of orthopaedic soft tissues -- ligaments, tendons, and cartilage. She is interested in the normal mechanical response of these tissues and the development of poroelastic models to describe experimentally observed behavior. In addition, Dr. Atkinson has conducted substantial research into injury mechanisms in these soft tissues, including post-traumatic osteoarthorosis.
